Benefits of a Good Eye Exam

A comprehensive eye examination will evaluate not only how well you see but also identify potentially debilitating eye diseases. Some eye diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration can result in serious vision loss if not detected and treated early. Many times patients with these diseases don't experience any symptoms before vision loss occurs.

Don't forget Flexible Spending Accounts...Time to Spend

If you have a flexible spending account (FSA) you are allowed to deduct pretax dollars from your paycheck and get reimbursed for health-related expenses up to an amount set by your employer, it can be up to thousands of dollars. There is a catch to the FSA, they operate on a “use it or lose it” basis, many plans expire at the end of the year. Most plans will let you claim the costs of an eye exam, new frames, new lenses, contact lenses, prescription sunglasses, even contact lens solution.

Kids and Glasses

How to get kids to wear them

For some kids it's a real struggle to get them to wear their glasses. Some suggestions: Let the child participate in choosing the style, listen to what they like and dislike about their glasses. Compliment them on how great the glasses look.  Suggest wearing the glasses for video game play, art projects and watching tv or movies. Encourage your child to wear the glasses full-time in the classroom and enlist the help of the teacher. Test your child's vision with the glasses on and off at home, try to show them that they do indeed see better with glasses.
